Gratitude at Bedtime

Do you ever wake up cranky… and think… why? I literally just woke up for crying out loud!

I just watched a short little clip from Wayne Dyer, and he said “the most important time of the day, is the 5 minutes right before you go to sleep, it sets the energy for the next day” (okay I might be paraphrasing… but you get the gist).

So how did I set up my day last night?

I was sucked into the void of the “reel scroll”. Faaaaaaaa!

I tell myself no… NO…. NOOOOOOOO scrolling! All it takes is one… frig!

Then I beat myself up. Right as I go to bed. Hmmmm no wonder I wake up cranky.

When I first started learning about the energy of our thoughts and emotions, I was taught a process for bedtime. GRATITUDE.

When we think about all the things that we are grateful for, or appreciate, from that day, or generally, it doesn’t matter the “what”. It is about shifting the energy to something positive before sleep, so that when we wake up, that is the energy we start the day with.

Because that is how our mind works. We pick up where we left off. If we were frustrated before sleep, we’ll wake up frustrated, or angry, or sad, or scared, or worried… or… grateful!

It doesn’t take much to start, just an intention, a reminder, to create a new routine that turns into a habit. Sometimes we fall out of that routine, but we can always start again.

So instead of beating the crap out of myself mentally, I’m going to be kind. I’m CHOOSING… to be kind to myself. I’m going to create my day by shifting my energy at night.

I’m a visual thinker, so I have a LOT of sticky notes everywhere. That works for me. Whatever you choose to do to remind yourself of this small process, I invite you to try it out. Treat it as an experiment if you want, to see how it really does work.

Nothing changes if nothing changes.

Now I’m aware of the things I can change to create more change that feels better.
